We study how genomes encode complex biological traits across systems—from plant carnivory and host–microbiome interactions to RNA dynamics in single-celled organisms.
🧬 Carnivorous Plant Genomics
We generate high-quality genomes for Sarracenia species to uncover the genetic and evolutionary basis of plant carnivory.
🌿 Host–Microbiome Interactions
Using the Sarracenia microbiome as a model system, we investigate how plants and their associated microbial communities interact at molecular and ecological levels.
🌊 Environmental DNA
We study how DNA persists, degrades, and moves through environments, developing methods to improve biodiversity monitoring and ecological inference from eDNA.
🦠 Viral Genomics
We develop targeted sequencing and computational approaches to study human viruses, enabling high-resolution detection, genome reconstruction, and evolutionary analysis.
🧫 RNA Biology in Single Cells
We study RNA transport, localization, and stability in Acetabularia acetabulum, a giant unicellular alga that provides a unique system for understanding RNA-driven cellular organization.
